Words of Wisdom
Rent a limousine.
Although limousines are expensive, the extra money may be worth it. Not only will this luxury add style and elegance to your celebration, using this spacious form of transportation will protect your wedding dress. The larger passenger area saves on wrinkles to keep your gown looking fresh for the ceremony and photographs. An attentive chauffeur may also keep your gown from being stepped on or abused in car doors, preserving it beautifully for future generations.
Hand out time schedules.
To ensure everyone in your wedding party understands the day’s schedule, hand out detail photocopies of your time table beginning as early as 8:00 a.m. and extending until your departure after the reception. Give copies of the schedule to both sets of parents as well so they may reach you or assist you throughout the day.
Break in your shoes.
If you plan to spend hours on the dance floor, you had better be wearing comfortable shoes. And if you have purchased new bridal shoes, they may need some breaking in. To reduce the risk of blisters and sore toes, wear your satin slippers around your home. Try to remain on carpeted areas and do not wear your new shoes outdoors to prevent scuff marks and rough heels. You must be comfortable but, on this day of a lifetime, you also want to be beautiful down to your toes.
Have a mock Reception.
If you are not working through a caterer for the reception and have decided to arrange the dinner yourself, make sure you are not overlooking any small details by having a mock reception. Prepare small portions of foods similar to those you will be serving and throw a reception for a few friends. Take this time to note any potential problems or inconveniences. Perhaps extra napkins should be available for a particularly messy food or salt and pepper shakers should be more readily available.
Remember those who cannot attend.
Send videotapes of your wedding preparation, ceremony, and reception to those special people who are unable to attend your festivities. Your grandparents in Germany or your best friend laid up in bed will love you for including them in your joyous celebration. You may also choose to send pieces of wedding cake as mementoes to other friends and relatives who are unable to join in the celebration.
Pack plenty of sunscreen.
If you will be taking a tropical honeymoon, pack several bottles of suncreen of varying degrees of protection. Using the un creens, gradually work up to a gorgeous honeymoon tan. Not only is this much healthier for your kin, tropical suns are very strong and nothing ruins a honeymoon like a painful sunburn. Plenty of sun protection should also be packed if you are planning a honeymoon on the slopes. Do not let the cool air fool you, the sun is more intense as it is reflected off the snow and although you may not be feeling the un’s effects, you could be burning and blistering.
